Starting lakeside Wanaka takes you out past Puzzling world, the Airport and over a one way historic bridge before a hard turn right and your ride really gets under way. The Lindis Pass is a longer and more gradual climb than yesterday’s but the ride a lot longer and the downhill rides you out further. James, owner of this iconic restaurant “The Wrinkly Ram” will welcome you at the stage finish and will give the first rider to locate him on site a bonus for his/her charity with an on the spot cheque. Your drive to the base of New Zealand’s iconic Mount Cook (next overnight stop at the Mt Cook village) will take about 90 mins, so head off once you are revived by a hearty lunch. An awesome ride down from the base of the 12,400 ft mountain awaits you tomorrow!
114 kms pretty flat for the first 25km. After turning left and heading North (just before Tarras) there is a hill that is the entrée to the Lindis Pass proper. Carry warm clothing today as the top of the Pass can be chilly and if rain forecast carry a waterproof jacket. Good wide roads but a bit busier today with trucks and buses also on a hurry north, so keeping well left imperative. The finish will be in Omarama at the Wrinkly Ram (a must visit cafe) a further 1 km north. Be cautious turning right and crossing the highway into the Wrinkly Ram car park.
