Day 8 – Wellington Criterium
About the Stage Sponsor
Life Insurance Provider, Asteron Life and General Insurer Vero, support the Tour of New Zealand for very good reason. Healthy lifestyle and fitness contribute to the health of a nation at every level. Vero and Asteron Life, both leaders from the front in their Insurance expertise and delivery, are there for you at a time of need and are there for the Tour. Vero and Asteron Life are there for you in a time of need, as well in support of the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by riders for the charities.
All categories will ride off in the criterium with the winner receiving a 30 second time bonus, to be deducted from their overall Tour time.
Less competitive riders will be organised into groups to ride the criterium through our special and historic Parliament grounds – with a sprint finish for fun and a bottle of wine!
The 800metre criterium circuit starts you just below the well climbed steps that lead to the Houses of Parliament. These historic grounds, proudly flying the flags of the countries represented by our international riders, is an awesome venue for the criterium. Trevor Mallard is our host for this final stage and Wellington’s Mayor Lester will not only welcome the Tour but also ride in the celebrity race today. The 2.00pm prizegiving will be celebrated (thanks to the New Zealand Government) in the Grand Hall of the New Zealand Parliament buildings.
One of us will be leaving the Prize giving with the keys to the Honda RS Jazz lead Car, some with fabulous Avanti Bikes whilst others will be leaving honored as winners of the 5th Tour of New Zealand.. Our Race Crew celebrate all riders as their champions. You have done a fantastic job fundraising and riding with all the grit, pain, patience and training to make it happen.
